What is a Working Closet?
In essence, a working closet is simply a closet that is very well organized. When people talk about working closets, it really means that the closet works for you and you end up NOT standing in front of your open closet for seemingly hours trying to find that ideal outfit for the day. A working closet is a closet in which you are able to remix your clothing into an infinite amount of outfits. It doesn’t always make you want to run out and go shopping for more clothes because you can’t find that ideal pairing that you thought you had. A working closet will be one that holds all of the clothes that you need and none of the cloths that you don’t need or need to get rid of.
Working closets can save you when it comes to things like stress, money and time.
To get a working closet, you will need to take the time and energy that is needed to declutter it. The thing is, if you haven’t worn a garment within the last year, you don’t need it. Why is it still in your closet taking up space? If you don’t happen to love an item, why is it there? If it doesn’t look great on you, why is it there? Get rid of all these things. You don’t need to throw them out either, unless they are full of holes or something. Donate them to charity. Someone will be able to make use of them. When you are decluttering, be brutal and ruthless. Get rid of what you don’t need and hang on to what you will need.
Once the cut has been made, group items in your closet in a way that makes sense…and this doesn’t mean by color. Put all of your pants together, all of your button down shirts together, polo shirts, T-shirts and basically all items that are alike together. This will make it easier to find exactly what you are looking for quickly. Make sure that what you wear the most is easy to find at the front of the closet and things that you rarely wear can be at the back of the closet. This will ensure that your working closet really does work for you.
