what’s in my Ellington pouch

I’m a big fan of the big bag; right now, I’m particularly in love with my Ellington Joni hobo. It is seriously the best bag ever. Truly.

Last week, though, we were on vacation, and carrying a beautiful leather bag with me everywhere just wasn’t practical. On the days we had big outings, Wade took his day pack and I just tossed my things in with his. But there’s nothing more annoying than having all those little things you really need — debit card, lip balm, hand wipes — falling to the bottom of the bag. Who wants to waste time searching for a lip gloss when you could be hiking? Not me.

That’s where my fab Ellington pouch came in handy.

Ellington Handbags pouch

ThisĀ 5″ X 8″ leather pouch is perfect for everything I need to get through the day. When I’m not hiking and rafting, it’s the perfect size for my lip gloss and lotion and any jewelry I may get tired of wearing. (Sometimes I change my mind about my accessories — what???) It fits easily into my bigger bag, but I can — and do — carry it on its own. Perfect.

The large pouch has an outside pocket that’s the perfect size for my money and drivers license, so it’s a nice substitute for a wallet, while the inside pocket is the perfect size for my iPhone and lippies. And the soft, beautifully colored leather makes it a terrific little clutch, all on its own.

Ellington also offers a smaller version of the pouch, which would be perfect for storing jewelry or carrying your id and cash.

Wouldn’t you love to have a pouch of your own? Let’s make that happen! Ellington is going to send one lucky Working Closet reader a large leather pouch, in the color of your choice. To enter, leave a comment here telling me what you would carry in your pouch; for a second entry (and to keep up with what’s new and cool in handbags) like Ellington on Facebook — and then come back and leave a second comment telling me you’ve done so. Contest closes Friday, July 27 at midnight CST.

This is a sponsored post; Ellington provided me with a bag, but all words and opinions are my own. Of course.

  1. LOVE! This would be perfect to hold my lip gloss, compact mirror, license, card, and cash, then toss in my messenger bag for the day, while transitioning into something I can use for errands or going out. Is there a way I can bribe you into picking me? ;-)

  2. Great little pouch! Mine would include my essentials: 2-3 colored lip balms, the Tweezerman mini nail kit with tweezers shoved in, powder to reduce the shine, my phone, train pass, money, a hair clip or two and anti-bac spray.

  3. I skate Roller Derby and am desperate to find a bag that can hold my phone and id/credit card along with my glasses while I am on the floor hitting people. Please please please.

  4. I would keep a lip balm and a lip gloss (maybe one of the bright new longwear ones I’ve been sporting), ID and credit card, a cleaning cloth for my sunglasses and, if I’m being active, my inhaler. Sounds awesome!

  5. Lovely, lovely, lovely…. I would definitely put my iphone, cash, lipstick, and hand cream in there.I guess my car key too…

  6. Would love this to carry my phone, a bit of cash, driver’s license and blotting sheets for date nights with my husband, or to carry grocery money and coupons on our walk to the grocery store.

  7. Wow this would be perfect for all those little things that fall to the bottom of my bag–lip gloss, bobby pins, hand sanitizer, nail clippers, etc. Great giveaway!

  8. Cutie pie pouch! I almost always have my Almost Lipstick, my license, a credit card, some cash, keys, and phone (and maybe an extra pacifier for baby emergencies).

  9. Adorable and chick all rolled into one. I’m with everyone else, just the necessary staples: phone, keys, lipstick, cash and the dreaded tampon when necessary. If I don’t win, I may just go out and buy one it’s so cute!

  10. I would carry my iPhone, earbuds, cash and cards, lip gloss, and maybe a comb and small hairspray for hair touch ups!

  11. Ooh, lovely. I would use this for cash, ID, phone, a pen, lip gloss, a hair tie, and a few bobby pins, just in case! And maybe a couple of business cards, if I were going somewhere work-related.

  12. Sounds like we’d all carry about the same things – ID, credit card, cash, phone, chapstick/gloss and mints. I’d add Lactaid tablet, too, just in case I wanted to have dairy later on!

  13. Jamie, we are the same! I always carry Lactaid for myself & my lactose-intolerant son. Plus all the usual suspects, ID, iPhone, cards, cash, lip gloss!

  14. How lovely! I would definitely use mine for an ID, debit card, chap stick, phone… and maybe that’s it!

  15. Thanks so much for the fun question and give away. I’d carry my old pre-smart phone phone and my ETSY lipgloss for red heads (which, alas, has also been discontinued!) I’m a vintage, hold on to things for a long time sort : ) It would be great to have a clutch to hold all of my treasures!

  16. I’d love one of these! I travel a lot for work, and generally use my laptop bag as a purse. This would be great to keep inside my big work bag for lipgloss, money, debit card, etc.

  17. These are so very cute. I would probably carry my id and debit card in the outside pocket, and then stick my little glucose meter (hello type 1 diabetes!), a mini larabara (always hungry!), some lipgloss and my phone in the pouch itself. Love love!

  18. Love the little pouch! I just got a new purse and am looking for exactly this kind of thing to keep my lip balm, small vile for advil/meds, emergency “lady” things, small container of hand lotion/sanitizer and a nail file.

  19. This is exactly what I have been looking for…I too throw things into my husband’s “man purse”, as my girls calls it, when we are out on our adventures. I have the hobo on my wish list but this would be a lovely addition.

  20. Awesome. Thank you both.

I would carry my chapstick, hand lotion, hankerchief, breath mints, wallet and iPhone – oh, and keys. And a note pad and pen (that I never use but still carry). Possibly, it would also hold a diaper, some wipes and fruit snacks, but not a pacifer (hooray!).

  21. I’ve recently begun sewing, and I like to carry small projects around with me for all those waiting times (waiting for the camp bus, waiting for the birthday party to end, waiting for my kids somewhere, generally). I should get a dedicated pouch for sewing projects instead of using plastic baggies, and a sturdy one like leather would be great so I could throw a small scissors in!

  22. in my pouch, I would keep my phone, chapstick, a pen, ID/credit cards, some cash, a hair tie, and some gum.

  23. Oh my! The fab Lippy Butter you recommended, those annoying ID key cards, the TWO iphones I have to carry and a few hair pins…this is just what I need.

  24. Lip gloss for sure, gum, hair ties and other random itty bitty stuff I just cant live without!

  25. Boringly, I’d probably put pretty much the same thing in the pouch as you—money, lipstick, iPhone. It’d be nice to have something like this to pull out of my big purse when I’m just running into the store.

  26. I would carry something NOT baby related, which is next to impossible with a 10 month old. I could make this my very own space for my phone and keys that I don’t want baby to grab. Ah, my very own space!

  27. This pouch would be amazing to carry my license, bank card, cash, lip gloss and iphone! Then I could toss it in my huge bag and know where everything is and it would be so handy to pick-up and carry by itself.

  28. As a mom I would carry my essential (ID, debit card, phone and chapstick) as well as my son’s essentials, his sunglasses because all 2 yr olds need hipster sunnies and his chapstick because nothing says snack like Laffy Taffy lip balm!

  29. I’m a big fan of the essentials going in a little pouch like this! Like everyone else, there would be a phone, cash, cards, keys, and the like in mine!

  30. I would carry lip stain, glasses, contact case, Advil, hair band, cell phone, and cards in my brightly colored pouch :)

  31. I’d carry my wallet, phone, daughter’s hair bands, lip gloss, work keys, and tiny sunscreen. Love this pouch!

  32. I would carry my gloss, debit card, id and my iphone. most likely a hair tie as well for when the hunidity gets the best of me!

  33. I would put my driver’s license, credit card, lip balm, inhaler, eyedrops and tide pen in it! This would be a super cute stylish addition to my diaper bag. I HATE digging for these small items & I constantly find myself doing exactly that.

  34. This is fantastic! Like others, I would carry some money, lip balm, pen, phone, gum, money & cards & camera!

  35. I have already like them on FB because of your past posts .. Does this count? Keep up the great blogging!

  36. I would put this in Henry’s diaper bag and carry my compact, a lip gloss, some hand lotion and my id & credit cards.

  37. beautiful pouch! You read my mind :) I was reading about yours and wished I could have one too. If I had one, I’d stash away my lipgloss, smartphone, ID, bank card, money, favorite ring and bracelet (I get ready at the gym and forget jewelry sometimes…and I feel naked without it.) and keys.

  38. I’m in love! I’d be using mine for my phone, lipgloss, little hand sanitizer or hand wipes (what? my kids are messy), and ID. Perfection!

  39. And, of course, I liked Ellington on FB, which I really should have already done before, because as you know I’m obsessed with my big Ellington Nicole hobo.

  40. I would love one to keep my daughter’s diapers and wipes in. That way, when she’s not in tow, I can easily remove the bag from my purse.

  41. I would love to use this pouch to carry all of my “things” (ie:phone, keys, headphones, ipod, and medication) to physical therapy everyday. It is so difficult to keep up with all of these things! It would also be great to bring to Boston when I go to a month long physical therapy rehab program for crps!

  42. I guess I’m the only one who needs readers and cannot read my iPhone without them , so I’d be carrying both in that chic new bag, along with debit card, keys, hand lotion, and lipstick.

  43. Great idea! I’d love to do something similar–put those necessities in there, so I can change purses easily and not worry that I’ve forgotten things

  44. I’d keep toy soldiers, hand sanitizer, lip gloss, hand lotion & ear plugs in mine… Must haves with 3 boys under 8.

  45. I would keep it in the diaper bag I’ll be using for the first time 6 weeks for now. Keeping lip gloss and other necessities in this beauty will help me not be a complete first time mom mess :)

  46. This would be a fabulous addition to what I call my “modular purse system”! I already have a washable bag for potentially messy stuff like make up and eye drops so this beautiful leather bag would be perfect for my cell phone, ipod, and other things I’d rather not get lip gloss on ;-)

  47. I would carry my phone, keys, wallet/change purse, sunscreen stick, lip balm/stain, probably a granola bar and a tiny first aid kit. Stuff happens. :)

  48. the phone and id, some cash and plastic. lips, mirror and floss (I never go anywhere these days without floss!).

  49. My pouch would have credit cards, baby wipes for sticky hands on my boys, and my kindle ( I try to read whenever I get a spare second)

  50. I would carry my phone, id, cash and cards, plus a small packet of gum, a hair tie, my keys, some lipstuff, a pen and small pad of paper for kid entertaining emergencies. oh, and a spare pair of cotton undies for my 2 yr old daughter who is mostly potty trained, but still has the occasional accident.

  51. In my pouch you would find my lipstick, my phone, a small notebook and my sunglasses. All essentials for my daily life!

  52. A happy problem of summer is that I’m changing bags frequently from camera bag/daypack (lightweight adventure) to backpack (adventure + change of clothing) to briefcase (job interviews) to handbag (seeing a friend or my parents). The beauty of the pouch is that I could move it to various bags and know that I had the basics: wallet, cards, checks, facial sunscreen, phone, notebook, and sunglasses.

  53. Seriously, what wouldn’t I carry in it?!?! So useful!!! I’d use it alone for date nights or stuff it with gloss and lotion for everyday use inside my big purse. Love it!!!

  54. I’m about to be carrying a diaper bag (AGAIN) and this would be perfect to carry all MY things so I don’t have to dig through all the baby stuff! Lipstick, gloss, hand cream, money, id, etc. *sigh* It’d be perfect!

  55. I would pack it full of all the essentials, Burts Bees chapstick, lip gloss, cell phone, id’s, cash, and keys! Love it, great giveaway!

  56. This would be ideal for holding all my small things in the diaper bag – cash, cards, phone, keys, make-up… It’s a wonderful idea!

  57. So cute! Perfect for lip gloss, money, id, a pack of Trident and of course, a matchbox car for my son! :)

  58. All the things you need in a fun day: keys, license, credit card, metro card, gum, and of course, lip balm.

  59. This would be perfect to throw my camera in before throwing it in my purse! OR just carry on it’s own :-)

  60. My little moleskin calendar and all the nicknacks in my purse that I can never find in the bottom!

  61. I am constantly switching between a purse and a briefcase, so I could definitely use something that I could throw into either one, mostly for my keys and chapstick and phone!

  62. Oh goodness! I have a three year old so most day I would fill it with craisins, hand wipes and a little plastic cat named Shutie. Sans child: red lipstick, a compact and mints!

  63. I’d use it n my purse (another Ellington bag!) to keep my makeup and computer cords organized (though probably not both at the same time!)

  64. I love little bags in my big bags! I use them to switch bags out often. Chapstick, nail file, compact, sunglass cloth and cleaner….all the things I need to survive every day!

  65. Wallet, keys, phone, tissues, sunglasses. Im still in the diaper bag season of life, so i would love to be able to keep my essentials in a smaller pouch.

  66. This is just what i’ve been looking for! As a part-time SAH mom and part-time work-outside-the-home mom, it would be perfect to transition my essentials from baby bag to work bag effortlessly, without forgetting something. I’d keep my phone, cash/credit cards, work pager and office keys/id, mints/gum, beauty basics (lip gloss, hair elastic, blotting papers) and emergency “personal care” essentials. Oh, how I’d love to be organized AND stylish!

  67. I would carry gloss, cuticle oil, chapstick, baby wipes and my toddler’s small motorcycle and policeman.

  68. I would carry one perfect tube of Clinique’s Black Honey and some cash I saved by winning this gorgeous pouch! :)

  69. So cute! I would use it for my phone, work ID, drivers license, bank card, my favorite mascara & lipgloss, and a small comb.

  70. I would put all the essentials in it – phone, debit card, cash, drivers license, chapstick. And then I could move it from one purse to another without having to unload and reload.

  71. This clutch is so cute–and I love the color of this one! Have downsized to small clutch-size purses to be able to carry license, credit card, lip gloss, and bandaids (4 kids!), but not big enough to carry everyone else’s stuff. : )

  72. I think this pouch would be great for my son’s baseball games to hold my essentials. Phone, cash, glasses and chapstick :)

  73. I’d definitely use it the same way as you have – cards, cash, keys, and various lip balms and other olio. This pouch would make it so much simpler to transfer items between purses!

  74. this would be the perfect size for: drivers license, credit card a bit of cash, keys, lipstick, phone and perfume rollerball!

  75. what a perfect size! I, too, love a big bag that eats things at the bottom – so this is perfect for my phone, lip balm, cash, a pen, and some tissues!! easy to grab when I don’t need my whole purse!

  76. I ned a pouch for my little items like lip balm, tissues and my stash of pens — I always have several but can never find one when I need one!

  77. Chap Stick, Lip Stain, Cell Phone, Itouch, Extra pair of earrings and hair band/pins, Gum, and Sun glasses, I’ve been looking for the perfect clutch/organizer small bag for awhile now, I really like this one!

  78. Love this post! I constantly use hobo for my errands when I don’t have to carry my whole life with me. Small essentials would include keys, phone, ID, credit card, lip balm, blotting paper, a bobby pin and a hair rubber. I love the bright blue color of your Ellington in this post. BTW, did you use extra light for your picture or did you photoshop? Thank you.

  79. I’d probably pass it on to my daughter who is starting high school next month (*sob*)–it’s the perfect size to toss in her backpack. She’d use it for her phone, lip gloss, the bobby pins she stole from my drawer, a ponytail holder or two, and her school ID.

  80. Pouch would hold essentials when traveling and I’d slip it into my carryon bag or briefcase.

  81. Cuteness! It’s a perfect transition bag to make sure I never leave my lip stuff behind (horror!) as well as keeping my id/credit card/phone all together for safe keeping. Just what a loony new mom needs. Woot!

  82. Cute! That would be great to toss in the diaper bag. Phone, keys, lipstick/gloss, hair bands… the usual mom-on-the-go essentials. :)

  83. I love this pouch! I would put my phone, ID, credit card/cash, and some lip gloss in it for evenings. I like the idea of putting different accessories in it so you could go from day to evening.

  84. I love pouches, it’s a great way to edit down to the essentials: lip gloss, a bit of floss (you never know when something will get stuck in your teeth), phone, $, and an extra bauble (just like you – I’ve also switched it up midday!).

  85. Cute and perfect little clutch. I would carry all the norms..lip gloss, license, credit card, mascara, pen, cell phone, cash and gum. Pretty much the necessities.

  86. I don’t really carry a purse, so this would be perfect. Would carry mostly my phone, some chapstick/lipstick, and cards.

  87. Same thing with me. Throw it in my bigger purse, but grab it out when I don’t need the diapers and wipes and toys. Credit cards, lip stuff, keys, sunglasses, iphone, etc.

  88. I would use it to carry the essentails – lip gloss, compact mirror, bobby pins, and credit card & ID – and use it on its own!

  89. This would be the cosmetic/ essentials bag of my dreams! Mine would have my mini-tweezers, nail clippers, Burt’s Bees in Rhubarb for cheeks & lips, flip & tumble shopping bag, iphone & cards.

  90. Niiiice pouch. Very nice. Mine would hold my iphone, burt’s bees, debit card, credit card, id, hand sanitizer, and lotion.

  91. Love it. This will be filled with my daily supply of 6 different lip balms/glosses, hand sanitizer, debit card, license, phone, keys.

  92. I would love one of these! I would tote my lip stuff, debit card, id, cash, kleenex and my glasses. Oh, and my phone!

  93. So beautiful. I would carry my two favorite lip glosses, my debit card, roll on perfume, cell phone, and my rosary. Thank you so much.

  94. I’ve been looking for something like this – this would be perfect to transfer the essentials between purses. I would carry my little wallet I got in Spain, Burt’s Bees lip balm, cell phone, and some tissues.

  95. How perfect! I’d toss in my BlackBerry (for work), my personal cell (I know- I should consolidate), hair pins, business cards, and gum.

  96. I’d carry the essentials: cash, license, tinted lip balm, listerine breath strips or mints, hair ties or bobby pins, phone.

  97. Love it! What a perfect size. Would use it to keep my parking money/coffee money in, my lip balm, travel hand cream and Tylenol for those crazy days at work!

  98. As a wedding planner this would be perfect to put my essentials in and then throw in my gigantic emergency kit I take to all my weddings. This way my items wouldn’t get lost in with everything else. I would put my Mary Kay oil blotters (a MUST for anyone with oily skin), powder compact, lip gloss, cash, credit card, and license (for when I go out for a drink after the weddings just in case I get carded…hahaha I wish!). And of course my iPhone.

I went to the website to see what other colors are available. I LOVE the blue on this blog. Is that still available? Thanks!

  99. one can never have to many pouches..this one would be great for a over night, would hold all the essential and be awesome as a cluch for dinner!

  100. I’d use this little number to store my too-many lip products, a hair clip, phone, and just to spice things up, a magical talisman that serves as a gateway to an alternate universe (small).

  101. This is the cutest pouch, love it. I would of course have lipgloss in there, a nail file, a comb, credit card, driver’s license and probably some gum to bribe my children into being quiet. :)
