you wore what???

Last night, I got dressed up and went to a party. It was super fun! And it called for a big blingy necklace. Of course.

How amazing is Rita’s hair? SO AMAZING.

The last two weeks have been a blur of working and swimming and I don’t know what all else. My uterus has been trying to kill me (seriously, my period lasted nearly TWO FULL WEEKS, which is just wrong) and I’ve not been sleeping well (good lord I’m like a 90 year old woman over here) but all that seems to have straightened itself out now. I think. I hope.

I’ve worn a lot of shorts in the past two weeks, just because they’re easy and it’s hot. I have also — I feel compelled to confess — left the house in rubber Old Navy flip flops on more than on occasion. On purpose, even.

(What? They’re soft and squishy and super comfortable. And yes, I’m a little ashamed of myself.)

I’ve reached the point in the summer where getting dressed is harder and harder. It’s hot and I’m busy and a large part of my day is spent either in my running clothes or my swimsuit. I’m not complaining, I promise. There’s nothing wrong with spending the day in a bikini. Nothing at all.

How’s your summer going? Are you still getting dressed every day? Or is it all flip flops and shorts, all the time at your house too? You know I won’t judge.

  1. I have been wearing my Old Navy skirts a lot. They pair really well with tanks and t-shirts alike. I usually wear flip flops because they’re comfortable and I slip my shoes off every chance I get. I draw the line at wearing my shorts to work, so I usually live in them on the weekends or in the evening (depending on what we’re doing). With it already being 80* by the time I head to work at 7:45, it’s just too hot to wear much else. That said, I prefer the summer heat to winter cold and I think Oklahoma is finally obliging me. :-)

  2. I definitely struggled when Chicago hit 100 degrees last week. I tended to pull out my cotton sundresses, which are not always my most flattering pieces but definitely provide a lot of comfort in high heat. I also did two different silk tops combined with A-line skirts, and I wore flip-flops to and from the office, switching into flats while at work. Made a huge difference in comfort level.

  3. I’ve been rotating between my chino shorts and a black sundress from Target from last summer (which, btw, is Merona brand and has been worn and washed TO DEATH and still looks brand new. Target FTW!). Summer is going completely awesomely. I’m at that stage of parenting I used to read about on your blog–when your kids are old enough to do a lot of things self-sufficiently and your parenting life suddenly become dramatically less exhausting. It’s a total revelation. (So I guess 6 and 8 are the magic ages?) And yes, Rita’s hair stuns me on a near-daily basis, or whenever I see a photo of it on her blog. SO. JEALOUS.

  4. When not at the pool in a bathing suit, I’ve been wearing my various color cotton shorts from Target – love them! They are really lightweight cotton so very cool. Combine that with cute t-shirts from Jcrew, Banana outlet or Target and it’s the daily uniform. I end up wearing rubber flip flops from JCrew or my Privo flip flops. Maybe TMI but my feet get so sweaty in the summer that I slip around in regular sandals with leather or plastic insoles (any suggestions?)
Love your outfits! I can’t do long sleeves in summer – way too hot. I’ve worn one skirt this summer and guess what my friends said “love your skirt – you should wear that more often!” hmmmm…. :) I guess it’s lazy but I don’t see the point of putting on a skirt at 3pm after a day at the pool. But I guess that’s the point of “getting dressed” isn’t it?

  5. You inspired me to try shorts that are shorter than my usual bermudas. Those pretty colors from target have been my weekend standbys too. Or an olive green cargo skort from lands end that I bought years ago and still love (and still fit into, more to the point!). Weekdays are office days for me, so it’s been skirts and dresses, with one of those excellent cropped cardis from old navy to protect from the air conditioning.

  6. It was hard for me to get dressed when the temp was over 100, bu today we are in the 80s and I felt inspired to not only get dressed but also to wear make-up and accessories !

  7. Swimsuits a plenty over here! Yesterday was the first rain we’ve had in weeks. It’s been triple digits, but today it’s a cool 87 so maybe shorts and sandals this week.

  8. I just came here via your Mighty Closet post on Maggie’s site. I’m loving your blog and have subscribed. Looking forward to tips on how I can look like I shop at JCrew all the time without actually shopping at JCrew all the time!

  9. No shame in wearing flip flops. For weeks, I’ve been rocking sporty sundresses and Birkenstocks (or, as my sweetie calls them, my “Egyptian Hooker Sandals.” For the record, he does quite detest those shoes). In other words, the Athleta catalog is my style guide these days.

  10. I’ve got 2 more days of dressing up for work. Starting next week I’ll be working from home, so I’ll be sporting shorts and tanks/short sleeve shirts for the rest of the summer. Woohoo!
