Oscars recap: Rooney Mara FTW!

I’m just going to say it: I loved Rooney Mara’s Oscar dress.

Rooney Mara Oscar dress

I would have done something different with the boob eyelash things on the front, like pressed them flat or … something. But the rest of the dress was perfect.

Especially the back.

(My least favorite dress was Sandra Bullock’s retro 80s abomination. Read more about that at Work It, Mom!)

I may have a little girl crush on Rooney Mara; she’s so pretty, and that whole black hair-red lip thing is totally working for her. She’s equal parts poised and hesitant on the red carpet, simultaneously waiflike and tough. I’m so impressed by the way she’s turned her Girl With the Dragon Tattoo look into a style that really suits her. She needs to give her stylist a big post-awards season bonus.

Also, you’ve gotta love this:

Rooney Mara Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig is all, “Ho hum photo call, whatever.” But the look on Rooney’s face says, “OMG YOU GUYS I’M TOTALLY STANDING HERE WITH DANIEL CRAIG!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??? WHEE!!!”

But this one is even better:

Rooney Mara Daniel Craig

Craig is making that same Hot Guy at Photo Call face while Mara is going, “HEY! DANIEL! YOU’RE STANDING ON MY TRAIN! WATCH THE DRESS! Sheesh.”

    • I’m so glad you girls BOTH said that — I thought maybe I was just crazy or sleep deprived or … something. But yes, his pants do indeed appear to be unbuttoned. Maybe it’s a new look? Or maybe he was still fat from the movie? Or maybe … wait, I’m not going there.

Although maybe THAT’S why Rooney Mara has that look on her face. Ha!

  1. If you’ve seen the Dragon Tattoo movie, his embrace of her in the first pic brings back memories of some very delicious scenes they have together. Made me love Daniel Craig even more.

But you’re talking about HER DRESS. Yes, it’s amazing. Everything about Rooney is lovely and youthful and fun but not too over the edge. I think I’d like her hair in a pixie cut though. She’s just all kinds of GREAT.

    • I am on the fence about seeing the movie; I’m not good with film violence (I left the room during the torture scene in “Casino Royale”). But I’m super intrigued by what I’ve heard both Craig and Rooney say in interviews. And of course I’m fascinated by her. And he? Is hott.

      So there you have it.

      • I would rent it on DVD. Then you can fast forward through the more graphic scenes. And there are a few that are not exactly fleeting. She is so amazing in this movie and yes, he is quite attractive as well. They make a great pair in this story and if you read the book, are also so perfectly cast for these two characters. Considering your fascination of Rooney, I think you should see her in this movie but in a way you can skip past the more disturbing parts.

  2. 1) A moment for Daniel Craig and his pants….
    2) I love you, but I can NOT, can NOT sign off on her Oscars dress (or most of what she’s worn, honestly). The Oscars dress was ill fitting and needed to be hiked up about 5 inches. Myabe it could have benefitted from a couple cutlets? Despite being entirely too overworked, it did nothing advantageous for her figure. It was blah and made her look blah-er. Plus, the yellow zipper ribbon is distracting as all h*ll.

Also, I hate her bangs. I think her sister (suffering from a serious lack of color) showed her up.

Clearly, I haz strong opinionzz! ;)

  3. Susan, yes, the scenes in the movie are tough to watch, but I thought the actual descriptions of them were even worse in the book. That doesn’t make them better, but it did make them a bit easier for me. Not that you have time to read the book first…

And Daniel Craig in his bikini-style underwear in the movie – super hot!!!

  4. I had to come read the comments to see if anyone else noticed his unbuttoned pants. On the red carpet I wonder why? Then I remember how hawt he is and say never mind :)
