go do stuff

Well, hello! Did you think I just stayed in Palm Springs? Because it was tempting, I’m telling you. Especially after it took me 1,862 hours to get there.

(No, not really, but close. Palm Springs is a long way from OKC, you all. Especially when your plane breaks down before you even leave the gate. Whee!)

((True story: we’re sitting on the runway, not going anywhere, and the pilot comes on the intercom and tells us they’re having trouble with the computer. “So we’re going to hit control alt delete and see if that solves it,” he says, and then my head fell CLEAN OFF MY BODY because OMGWTFWE’REALLGOINGTODIIIIIEEEEE!!!))

(((I did not die. Thank god. Because then I would have missed Palm Springs! Which would have been sad. Also, apparently the pilot was not joking about ctrl/alt/del, which makes me wonder what the hell is going on in aviation technology these days. Apparently it’s still 1986 up in the cockpit. Sheesh.)))

I’m still processing my weekend at Camp Mighty; the short version is that it was amazing — relaxing and refreshing and super, super fun. I slept soundly and ate well and hugged some of my favorite peeps. And I feel like my brain and my soul were stretched in about 40 different directions, which is also a good thing.

Although my brain is kind of sore now. Ouch.

I’ve spent this week letting my brain recover from the trip, and mulling a few new projects. While I’m busy with that, here are five things I learned at Camp Mighty — you know, to go with my five Life List items for the next year.

1. You can survive anything for three hours. (This will be important on Sunday when I run my first half marathon.)

2. Enjoy being a geek. (I do, believe me. Always.)

3. There’s a killer bagel shop in Palm Desert. (Thank you, Whoorl!)

4. You don’t have to be famous to change the world. (So what are you waiting for?)

5. Oprah’s staff meditate every day at work. (If it works for Oprah, it will work for me.)

And one bonus lesson: it really is a vacation when you don’t take the kids along. You know I’m right.

Necklace from Lemonade Handmade — one ring for each Life List goal we’re taking on this year. Thanks to Maggie and Laura for the gift. You girls rock.
